Introduction

About Table Communities

Table Communities are community gatherings for the purpose of:

  • Building meaningful relationships through intentional time together
  • Engaging in mutual discipleship through directing one another towards Christ with truth shared in love
  • Multiplying grace through love, prayer and gifts of the spirit

The notes will guide you through praying together, reading scripture and engaging in intentional relational time together. There are also notes and practices for this month's habit of grace. We know that most groups will not have time to discuss the habit of grace during their time together, but they are available if time allows and are available for those seeking to intentionally engage with God's grace during the week. If that desire is within you, please read the notes on your own time or go through the habit of grace practices with a spiritual friend or your spouse, so as to build one another up in truth and love. Finally, this gathering is not about getting through all the note content, but rather this gathering is about building meaningful relationships, engaging in mutual discipleship and multiplying grace. Let those values shape the direction and pace of your time together.

Remember: What we all have in common

Saint : Beloved, forgiven, being renewed, filled with the Holy Spirit

Sufferer : Carrying real pain and struggle

Sinner: Still in need of ongoing grace

Kick off with prayer

Some one pray for your time together.

Example prayer, if needed. Ideally pray freely as you feel called:

Father we praise you for gathering us together. Despite whatever weighed on our hearts as we entered this house, we pray that your Spirit guides our time together and free us from anything that is not of you. We pray that by the strength of your might we may speak truth in love to one another. We pray that we are led by the gifts of your spirit, so that we may build up one another and your church as a whole. As we read your word, we pray that we may be filled with the knowledge of your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner pleasing to you.

Passage: The Psalms| Psalm 145

We will read the text together seeking for God to give life to the text through his Spirit. "Lord please help us to hear your word and receive what you have for each of us"

Read Psalm 145

A Song of Praise. Of David.

1  I will extol you, my God and King,

and bless your name forever and ever.

2  Every day I will bless you

and praise your name forever and ever.

3  Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,

and his greatness is unsearchable.

4  One generation shall commend your works to another,

and shall declare your mighty acts.

5  On the glorious splendor of your majesty,

and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

6  They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,

and I will declare your greatness.

7  They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness

and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

8  The Lord is gracious and merciful,

slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

9  The Lord is good to all,

and his mercy is over all that he has made.

10  All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,

and all your saints shall bless you!

11  They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom

and tell of your power,

12  to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds,

and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

13  Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

[The Lord is faithful in all his words

and kind in all his works.]

14  The Lord upholds all who are falling

and raises up all who are bowed down.

15  The eyes of all look to you,

and you give them their food in due season.

16  You open your hand;

you satisfy the desire of every living thing.

17  The Lord is righteous in all his ways

and kind in all his works.

18  The Lord is near to all who call on him,

to all who call on him in truth.

19  He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;

he also hears their cry and saves them.

20  The Lord preserves all who love him,

but all the wicked he will destroy.

21  My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,

and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

Passage Summary

Psalm 145 is a song overflowing with worship, testimony, and awe at the greatness of God. David magnifies God as King over all things eternal, powerful, merciful, generous, righteous, and near. The Psalm moves from the vastness of God’s kingdom to the intimacy of His care for ordinary people. Throughout the Psalm, worship and testimony continually overflow together: those who know God cannot help but speak of Him. David presents a vision of life where God is central, His greatness is magnified above all else, and His people joyfully pass that vision on to others and future generations.

Discussion

Discussion Questions

David says, “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.” What tends to feel biggest or most consuming in your life right now and how does that shape you emotionally or spiritually?
  • Stress and responsibility often feel bigger than God to me.
  • Fear about the future can consume my thinking.
  • Sometimes my failures or weaknesses feel overwhelming.
  • There are moments where worship genuinely helps reorient me.
  • Honestly, I do not often stop to think about God's greatness.
David repeatedly speaks of worshipping, declaring, meditating, and testifying about God. What do you naturally fill your thoughts, conversations, or attention with most often?
  • I spend a lot of time focused on problems or pressure.
  • My mind is often full of distraction and busyness.
  • I find it easier to talk about hobbies or work than spiritual things.
  • When I spend time with God, gratitude and worship grow naturally.
  • I want God to become more central in my daily thinking.
Psalm 145 describes God as both infinitely great and personally near: “The Lord is near to all who call on him.” Which of those feels easier for you to believe that God is powerful, or that He is personally near to you?
  • I can believe God is powerful, but closeness feels harder.
  • I often feel distant from God emotionally.
  • Sometimes I experience God's nearness very deeply.
  • I want relationship with God, but I do not always know how to approach Him.
  • I have never really thought about God in personal terms before
The podcast reflected on how worship reorients life making God bigger and ourselves smaller in the right way. How would the experience of life change if God's greatness becomes more central than fears, emotions, failures, or circumstances?
  • I think life would feel less overwhelming.
  • Fear and anxiety would probably lose some of their control.
  • I imagine there would be more peace and steadiness.
  • Worship and gratitude would become more natural.
  • Problems would still exist, but they would no longer define everything.
  • I think I would stop feeling like everything depends on me.
How we experience life is shaped by: our relationship with God, how we view ourselves, what others are saying to us and our circumstances. If God could significantly touch one area of your life this week, what would you ask Him to do?
  • I need God to reorient my heart toward Him.
  • I need peace where fear feels overwhelming.
  • I need fresh wonder and worship.
  • I need to know God’s nearness more personally.
  • I need freedom from being consumed by my circumstances.
